Wood turning lathes

The ideal lathe should be chosen according to its intended use. For a hobbyist lathe, a power output of 300 to 500 watts will suffice. However, we recommend at least 750 watts for larger workpieces or harder wood. As a general rule, large workpieces require a lower speed of approximately 500 to 1000 rpm, while small workpieces require a higher speed of up to 3000 rpm for clean, smooth results.

Woodturning is fun if you observe basic safety rules. We recommend wearing face protection, avoiding loose clothing, securely clamping the workpiece, and only starting the machine when all clamps are tightened.Extractionsaves time when tidying up and protects against fine dust.

Whether you order a new lathe online or buy a used one at a good price, a robust machine construction is essential – the larger the workpieces, the more solidly built the machine needs to be (turning wood exerts greater centrifugal forces than you might think). Pay attention to sufficient motor power, ideally with continuously variable speed control, a reliable clamping device, and good availability of spare parts and accessories. For precise speed adjustment to the workpiece, you should buy a machine with motor control.
